Higher Education Opportunity Act compliance

 Union Institute and University (UI&U) operates in compliance with the provisions of the United States Federal Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA), Public Law 110-315 concerning the verification of student identity in distance learning. All students are required to use a unique and secure username and password to access our cloud-based environments, including our learning management and email systems.

Quickstart Guide for New Students

Recommended computer specifications

To ensure your academic success at Union Institute and University we recommend the following minimum requirements for your personal computers. Please contact the UI&U Help Desk (513 487 4357, with any questions or concerns.


Internet bandwidth: 5 MBPS or higher


Computer hardware:

  • Processor: Intel Core i5 and higher or AMD equivalent
  • Memory: 8 GB
  • Hard Drive: 160 GB and higher


Computers using Microsoft Windows

  • Supported operating systemsWindows 7, 8 and 10
  • Supported versions of Microsoft Office: Office 365 and Office 2013 and higher
  • Supported internet browsers:
    • Internet Explorer: MS Edge or Internet Explorer 11 or higher
    • Google Chrome
    • Mozilla Firefox


Apple Computers

  • Supported operating systems: Mac OS 10.12 (Sierra) or higher
  • Supported versions of Microsoft Office: Office 365 and Office 2016 and higher
  • Supported internet Browsers:

Note:  Effective December 4, 2015, Student and Alumni email passwords have been reset to the default of UIU and the last six digits of your social security number (e.g.:  UIU456789).  Single Sign on for Student Email is not available at this time.
