A Message from President Karen Schuster Webb: No tuition increases for the 2021-22 Academic Year

June 30, 2021

Dear Union Students:

On behalf of all of us at Union Institute & University, I send you our warmest wishes and hopes that you are all healthy and persevering during this time. I am happy to share some good news. We are pleased to announce that there will be no tuition increase for our bachelor’s completion, master’s or doctoral programs for the 2021-2022 academic year, starting July 1, 2021.

Tuition and fees for each program can be found at this link.

Working closely with staff, administration, and Union’s Board of Trustees, this decision comes after listening to you, our students, and taking into account the sacrifices made by you and your families to earn your degree, and fully understanding the challenges that many families continue due to the global pandemic, even as COVID 19 vaccines bring hope for a new normal.

This annual tuition update provides us with the opportunity to remind you about the many benefits that Union offers. Our transfer-friendly programs allow for 90 credits toward the bachelor’s degree, which honors your professional experiences, and saves you time and money. Our graduate programs allow for generous credit hour transfers, reducing the number of classes you are taking toward your degree and reducing your time in programs. In addition, our model of flexible scheduling and self-registration, online delivery (24-hour access!), academic support services, counseling services, and brief residencies (in person and online) also contribute to lower costs for the student.

Remember too, that Union contributes about 10 percent of its annual budget to offer institutional scholarships across many programs. These scholarships impact hundreds of students each year, reducing tuition charges by more than $100 per credit hour in a number of programs, including benefits for:

  • Students from community colleges across the nation
  • Military personnel and their dependents
  • First responders
  • Local Chambers of Commerce in Ohio, California, and Florida

We are working hard to improve our connections with you and your learning process, with better pathways to register for your classes, improved support from your Student Success Coaches and student services, as well as the development of new certificates, degree programs, as well as bridge programs to enhance your career goals. We trust that you are having success with our new state-of-the-art Brightspace learning management platform. At Union, we are committed to a continual improvement process to ensure that your learning experience is trouble-free and also secure.

Thank you for selecting Union Institute & University to accomplish your academic goals. Let us know how we can better serve you so that you are, in the words of our mission, "engaged, enlightened, and empowered to pursue professional goals and a lifetime of learning, service, and social responsibility."

Please do not hesitate to reach out to your Student Success Coach or academic program director with any questions or concerns.

Please stay healthy and please stay connected. We look forward to serving you again this coming academic year!

With warmest regards,

Karen Schuster Webb, Ph.D.
