Union Institute & University is proud to be a recipient of a generous grant from Great Lakes Community Investments. The TLC Emergency Grant funds will assist eligible students faced with an unexpected financial emergency. Eligible students are able to apply one time for assistance (maximum grant of $1000).

Eligibility

 

The TLC grant is available for students who:


• Are enrolled in an UI&U undergraduate program. (Note: Students enrolled in any Education program in Florida or the Child and Adolescent Development (CHAD) program in California are NOT eligible as the programs are not offered in Ohio).

• Are Pell eligible or have an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) of $7,000 or less.

• Have not previously applied for the TLC grant.

 

Emergency expenses covered by the TLC grant

 

The following are among the emergency expenses able to be covered (up to $1000):

• Housing / Rent
• Medical/Dental expenses
• Utilities
• Personal Automobile repair
• Public Transportation/Bus Pass
• Gas
• Food/Meals
• Child Care

 

To Apply for the TLC Grant

To give your application the care it deserves and speed up the approval process, please attach supporting documentation. Funds will go directly to the third party incurring the expense, NOT to the student. 

Examples of supporting documentation include; but are not limited to:
• Car repair estimate
• Utility bill
• Child care provider receipt
• Medical Explanation of Benefit


Employment situation changed that has caused an emergency? Examples of documentation would include:
• recent check stubs (showing a reduction in hours)
• a letter of lay-off or RIF from your employer


All invoices and W9 documentation must be submitted prior to approval of grant.
Note: Because this is a benefit to the student, the amount of the grant disbursed will appear in Box 6 of your 1098-T (Tuition Statement). Box 6 is where all grants, scholarships and third party payments are reported.
