General Eligibility Criteria (Note: Award criteria are subject to change each year.)
To qualify for a UI&U Women in Union scholarship, women in need, with dependents, enrolled at least half-time in the Cincinnati-based Bachelor of Science (BS) or the Bachelor of Arts (BA) program and residing in the Greater Cincinnati area must:
- Have a minimum 2.5 GPA in previous college-level courses
- Maintain 2.5 GPA
- Not be a full-time employee of Union Institute & University
- Provide a letter of recommendation from a professional, who is not related, such as a faculty member, member of clergy, or employer; which addresses how the funds will help you achieve your educational goals.
- Financial need will be taken into consideration when awarding Women in Union scholarships. Please make sure you have a current FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Aid. File online at http://www.fafsaed.gov. The UI&U federal code number is 010923.
General Scholarship Information
Scholarship awards are not renewable and may only be awarded to currently enrolled students who are registered for at least half-time academic credit. A completed scholarship application includes a completed and signed scholarship form, and a required personal statement(s)/ essay. Applicants may consult with the writing center to prepare a good essay for this competitive scholarship.
Statement of Intention
ALL GREATER CINCINNATI AREA RESIDENT Women in Union scholarship applicants must attach a minimum of 500-word statement/ essay to their completed scholarship applications in which they briefly discuss ALL of the following:
- how you have set and achieved short- and long-term goals; include steps to accomplish goals in the future.
- how significant experiences and your qualities of character and leadership are important in your professional and educational goals.
- how community involvement is important in your personal and professional goals.
- how this scholarship will enable you to engage in activities or projects that you might not have been able to do otherwise,
- how this scholarship fits into your broader program of academic study and professional development.
These statements are used to select scholarship recipients.
