General Eligibility Criteria (Note: Award criteria are subject to change each year.)

To qualify for a UI&U Women in Union scholarship, women in need, with dependents, enrolled at least half-time in the Cincinnati-based Bachelor of Science (BS) or the Bachelor of Arts (BA) program and residing in the Greater Cincinnati area must:

  1. Have a minimum 2.5 GPA in previous college-level courses
  2. Maintain 2.5 GPA
  3. Not be a full-time employee of Union Institute & University
  4. Provide a letter of recommendation from a professional, who is not related, such as a faculty member, member of clergy, or employer; which addresses how the funds will help you achieve your educational goals. 
  5. Financial need will be taken into consideration when awarding Women in Union scholarships. Please make sure you have a current FAFSA on file with the Office of Financial Aid. File online at http://www.fafsaed.gov. The UI&U federal code number is 010923. 

General Scholarship Information

Scholarship awards are not renewable and may only be awarded to currently enrolled students who are registered for at least half-time academic credit. A completed scholarship application includes a completed and signed scholarship form, and a required personal statement(s)/ essay. Applicants may consult with the writing center to prepare a good essay for this competitive scholarship.

Statement of Intention

ALL GREATER CINCINNATI AREA RESIDENT Women in Union scholarship applicants must attach a minimum of 500-word statement/ essay to their completed scholarship applications in which they briefly discuss ALL of the following:

  1. how you have set and achieved short- and long-term goals; include steps to accomplish goals in the future.
  2. how significant experiences and your qualities of character and leadership are important in your professional and educational goals.
  3. how community involvement is important in your personal and professional goals.
  4. how this scholarship will enable you to engage in activities or projects that you might not have been able to do otherwise,
  5. how this scholarship fits into your broader program of academic study and professional development.

These statements are used to select scholarship recipients.
